Potentially Damaging Virus

My wife in her quest for coupns, which is saving us about $10.00 every time we goto the store, she recently was infected with a Desktop Hijack software. This software basically makes yo u think you have the Blue Screen of Death from the old W2K systems. This was an XP home machine, I must say quite cleaver but I really wish they would spend their time elsewhere to make a contribution to societly. Ok sorry for the Rant, Heres how to fix it. I basically spent the better half the of last night and into this morning fixing Debs computer from this virus. First thing you will notice is a picture in the backgournd of your window that tells you, you need to download Windows2008antivirus program. To support this fictious claim, they have cleaverly shut down the ability for you to change the desktop settings making it appear that you have a blue screen of death only to find out its just the screen saver that kicks in. Very cleaver. Now when you try to change the sceen saver you will notice that the tab has been removed using a windows policy statement. "This person has way too much time on their hands and needs a job in the computer industry" Anyway. Amurge to the rescue. 1. Run any antivirus program you have "its most likely not going to work" but give it a try 2. Download www.alt-networking.com/coin_modules/downloads/dload.php?id=9 Click rhis link and download and run this file 3. Goto www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Line 51 ScreenSaver Disable/Enable or Tab Missing, Click on the Tab Missing option and it should return your properties window back to normal. 4. Enter windows in "Safe Mode" "Hold down the F8 key when the machine it start up, this will give you the option to boot with networking. Choose that option. 5. Clean out all temp files and temorary internet files. look for andy mysterious looking folders int eh C drive that might be hidden. 6. In the windows/system32 folder there might be a screen saver file blphc9b2j0en3g.sav, Delete this file it is the screen saver for blue screen of death making you think that you have computer problems. Happy New Year From www.amurge.com

A new year brings on new thoughts on how to get your site to top.  Well I have been a clear advocate of utilizing free classified ads, when they are done correctly.  DON'T OVER USE THEM or POST in unrelated categories.  These types of actions can actually get you removed from a service and blacklisted from their site.  So resist the temptation to paste your site all over the classifieds and keep it in the appropriate category for your listing.

If you are selling a service, keep your listing to the service portions of the classifieds.

Well a new year and a new site for you to test out your SEO campaign.

I have been working with http://expo.live.com/ and they are actually pretty good when it comes to listing your ads.  Make sure that your title of your ad is very close to the key words that you are trying to post.  However, don't just make the title of the ad all keywords.  Keep it some type of statement or even better a sentence.

Utilize http://expo.live.com/ to get some listings in key word areas you might be needing some ratings in.

As always, please check us out at www.amurge.com we have hosting plans from just $3.99 a month and 24x7 technical and billing support.

Press Release - Amurge SEO Hints

Well we have talked about doing classified ads.  Another way to get your site some listings and traffic is to have some type of short offer or press release that you can publish.  Remember the goal here is to get as many links to you site as possible.

I personally like
http://www.i-newswire.com

They are very fast and well organized for news releases that usually gets published the next day if not the same day.

I keep mentioning Google here and there are other search engines, but lets not kid ourselves.  Google maintains a very large share of searches.  Just test the theroy, goto another search engine and do a search, then goto Google and put the same exact search in.  You will most likely get better and more results with Google.

So yes, we usually cater to them as much as we can.

So, keep SEOing and have a good night.

Submit Express - Amurge SEO Hints

Well Im at it again.

After feeling so bad about the weak post, I figured I should make it up to you guys.  Here is a great way to get some awesome information on your site.  www.submitexpress.com has gone through a great re-write and is now offering several tools.

The best tool that I can see on this site is their meta-tag analyzer.  This breaks your site down into possible key words and percentages for each.  I am impressed, and not to easily.  I have seen several of these that don't give half the detail as they do.

Go check them out and see what they are about.  If you don't have meta-tags or you get a bunch of errors its time for us to talk.

See us at www.amurge.com/seo.html for more information on our services and find out why our customers call us "The web site surgeons"

Back to Business - Using free Classifieds

Well after a short vacation it's back to business.  I thought today I would discuss the concept of using free online classified ads or service ads to help you with your SEO campaign.

Everyone knows that internet is growing at alarming rates.  This is good, you can find sites all over the internet that allow you to post free classified ads.

This can be seen with the boom of http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites.html.  The key to this type of advertising is it can bring you into a very localized area of business or just the opposite and give you a very broad area of business.  Depending on your business you may want to focus on free localized ads.

Example:

If your business is a dog grooming business and has a brick and mortar store front, you most likely do not want to advertise in California if your business is located in NYC.

However, if in this same dog grooming business you have a very unique type of dog food or biscuits that you want to ship all of the country, then you can focus your ad to do so.

When considering this type of advertising make sure that your ad targets the right customers.  Give them enough information to be curious to click through to your site without giving away the entire store.

This is another easy method of getting your site listed with the major search engines.   Make sure that you put your URL in the ad even if they have a spot for your URL when posting the ad.  Be careful here, make sure there is no disclaimer that warns against doing this.  Also, make sure that your posting your ad to the appropriate category.   I can tell you that people do not like to read ads that they are not looking for.  If they are posted in the wrong category, chances are that you will most likely turn away customers.

Don't forget that offer.  Make it big and make it strong.
