Get a Listing on Google Fast

I think I have found the jackpot to listing your business on Google.  Granted it's not going to give you an exact listing but you might find this very useful.

If you have not already done so, goto http://www.merchantcircle.com and sign your business up.

I did this a couple of days ago, they must have some sort relationship with Google.  Every entry I make either through the blog or a customer feedback, gets instantly, yes instantly posted on Google.

Now that has to be the best thing I have seen in my career of SEO.  If you don't believe me, take the time to fill out the business profile.  It costs you nothing an I get nothing.  Just helping out my fellow business members.

If this works for you, I would love a feedback comment.

Thanks

Ken

To link or not to link - part 2

I should have guessed this one was coming.  I received a some replies asking for some locations where you can find free directories.

I like this one:

http://www.seocompany.ca/directory/free-directories.html

Be careful as not all of the directories listed here are free.   The best method to work this is to select the listing and copy the table cells and paste them into Excel.  This gives you the ability to sort them by PR rate and cost, it also gives you the ability to add a column for submitted to that way you know where you left off.

Remember that this is a great way to get your site on search engines quickly.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at info@amurge.com or visit our web site at www.amurge.com.

Thanks

To link or Not to Link

To link or not to link that seems to be the question.  After years of researching SEO online and reading all sorts of different articles about linking, I have clearly determined that you need to link.  Why, you ask do I need to link?

The more inbound links that you have on your site the greater possibility that someone is going to find you.  Not to mention that Google puts alot of weight into the number of INBOUND links that you have.

Now, there has been several discussions on whether or not it's important to have your links on sites that have a high PR rating.  The fact is that you have no control over what sites put your link on their site.  Goggle has come out and said that if your site is linked to a site that has a poor PR rating that this is not taken negatively in rating your site.  HOWEVER, there is one thing that you want to be careful of.  Notice I have been talking here about INBOUND links.  These are links that are linked from another site to yours.

What you don't want to have in a bunch of links on your site that point to sites with a low PR rating.  This is something that will clearly hurt your PR rating.  If you decide to have reciprocal links on your site because they put your link on their site, make sure its a site that is related to your industry or a site that has a high PR rating.

So let me summarize this:

  1. Link away - inbound links will help
  2. Utilize directories, blogs and misc search engines
  3. Careful of outbound reciprocal links

In a nut shell link away, find as many directories that you can.  Search Google for Free Directory Listings.  This does take time.  In the long run you will get better ratings because of your efforts.  Don't expect to see immediate results.

Check your Hosting Plan before the end of the Year

Check your hosting plan before the end of the year.  Most web hosting plans will expire at the begining of the year in January.   Over the years Amurge has been able to save companies and non-profit organizations thousands per year just by reviewing their hosting plans and moving to a lower cost provider.

Alot of people out there might be frightened by a low cost provider or think that they won't get the same support.  Actually, the opposite is usually the case, the low cost hosting providers typically have more service offerings at a less price then what you are paying.  The majority of the low cost providers have 24x7 technical support.

Ok so what does this mean to you, that you might be able to move your hosting to a provider that will better support your needs at a lower cost.  Don't take the web designers word for it do your homework and look at the differences before making a decision.

Some points to look at before you make the decision to move hosting providers:

  • Look at the plan that you are paying for and compare the price to what you would be paying you could save a ton of money
  • Make sure that the monthly transfer rates are the same or better
  • Make sure the storage capacity for the plan is the same or better
  • Make sure you get the email for free ( most companies are doing this, unless its Exchange hosting )
  • Call both providers and see what type of response you get from both sales and support

These are just a couple of points to think about before you renew your hosting plan.   Reviewing your hosting plan can save you alot of money on an annual basis.  Check out www.amurge.com for our current rates.
